Stefan Georgiev – The Artist Who Paints Emotions
Stefan Georgiev is a Bulgarian artist, born on June 24, 1954, in Veliko Tarnovo – a city rich in cultural heritage and history. His passion for art emerged at an early age, leading him to the Art School in Kazanlak and later to the University of “St. St. Cyril and Methodius” in Veliko Tarnovo, where he refined his skills in fine arts.
His artistic journey began in 1979, and his signature style was shaped by his love for experimentation and mixed techniques. He works not only with oil and acrylic paints but also with texture materials such as acrylic paste, gold and silver metal foils, and collage elements. Using a palette knife, he gives his canvases a sense of movement, depth, and expressive texture, making them instantly recognizable.
A significant chapter of his creative path took him beyond Bulgaria. Between 2000 and 2014, he lived and worked in Athens, Greece, actively participating in prestigious solo and group exhibitions organized by the Greek Artists’ Association (EETE). His works carry the mark of a traveler in art – with a sense of time, space, and cultural dialogue. During this period, he also illustrated children’s books for some of Greece’s leading publishers, with 28 published books featuring his artwork.
His artistic style is a bridge between realism and abstraction – his figurative compositions are rich in decorative and stylized details, conveying emotions and a mystical atmosphere. His themes range from human figures to natural and botanical motifs, which come to life through his vibrant color palette and diverse use of materials.
Stefan Georgiev’s works are housed in numerous galleries and private collections across the Netherlands, Germany, Italy, Spain, the United Kingdom, Greece, Bulgaria, Turkey, Russia, the USA, Canada, and Hong Kong. His art is more than just decoration – it tells stories, evokes emotions, and creates a unique connection between the viewer and the canvas.
